CVA Staff

         Our staff consists of a carefully selected group of qualified coaches that will emphasize the same set of

fundamentals as well as advanced skills. Coastal
 attracts, develops and retains coaches that embody the

philosophies we consider vital to a coach’s success. We strive to have our teams led by 
individuals that are

experienced, knowledgeable and professional individuals that are dedicated to their 
team and consider

themselves to be lifelong learners. BAJA and Coastal coaches embrace the club’s 
player-centric philosophy.  

We commit to helping our athletes build a strong work ethic, leadership skills 
and life lessons that will carry

far beyond the volleyball court.

     
Coaches must complete all certifications required by USA Volleyball / AAU and undergo annual

background checks in conjunction with USA Volleyball / JVA protocol and policy to be eligible to coach.

Stephen Shepherd




Founder / Co-D
irector / 15 Elite Head Coach


     Stephen Shepherd
is the Varsity Volleyball Coach at Palm Harbor University High School.  In his 2 seasons, the

Hurricanes have a combined 36-20 record.  Previous to this Coach Shepherd was at Clearwater Central Catholic High

School.  In his 11 years at CCC, the Marauders compiled a record of 232-84. He led them to 5 District Championships,

3 Regional Championships, 3 Final Four appearances and the 3A State Championship (’14) .  He has been named St.

Pete Times SunCoast CoTY 2x, St. Pete Times Pinellas CoTY 2x, FACA CoTY 4x as well as Florida Dairy Farmer

CoTY.  He was with Pinellas Heat Elite VBC for 14 years.  Most recently, in 2019 his Pinellas Heat 15 Elite team

finished Runner Up at AAU Nationals in the Premier Division.  Stephen is CAP II certified through USAV and is

working on his CAP III certification.



Ashley Martin



Co-Director / Director of Operations / 17 Elite Head Coach


     Ashley Martin
is the Varsity Volleyball Coach at Osceola Fundamental HS.  In her 4 years at Osceola, Ashley has

led the Warriors to an 80-27 record, 2 PCAC Championships, 3 District Championships and 3 Regional Final

Appearances.  Ashley was named the St. Pete Times Pinellas Coach of the Year in 2019, PCAC Coach of the Year

in 2021 and FACA 5A-District 14 Coach of the Year in 2022. 

     Ashley started playing club volleyball at the age of 11 at Gulf Coast Juniors Volleyball Club in Pinellas County.  Upon

entering high school, she started on Varsity as a freshman MB and by her senior year, led the county in kills with 265

and helped lead Seminole High to 3 straight Regional Playoff Appearances.  As one of the top recruits for the

c/o 2005, she earned many D-I scholarship offers, but ultimately decided to continue her career at Winthrop

University
where she would earn a starting spot as a 6 rotation RS for the Eagles.  She then went on to play for

the Florida Southern College Mocs (2006-10) where she earned multiple accolades including:  

AVCA All-American (2006-07 & 2010), AVCA 1st Team All-South Region (2006-07 & 2010), 1st Team All-South

Region (2006-07), NCAA South Regional All-Tournament Team (2006-07), West Florida All-Tournament

Team (2007), Premier Challenge All-Tournament Team (2006), All SSC 1st & 2nd Team (2006-07) as well as 

Sunshine State Conference Commission’s Honor Roll. 

     Ashley graduated with a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Physical Education and minor in Human Movement &

Performance & is CAP II certified through USAV.

Allyne O'Shea



Parent Liaison

     Allyne O'Shea is currently the Head Coach at St. Pete Catholic High School.  She is entering her 2nd Season

at SPC where she is rebuilding the Lady Barons tradition rich program.  Coach Ally is originally from Indiana, where

she played at legendary Cathedral Catholic High School.  At Cathedral she was a Two-Time Indiana Metro Player of the

Year, a Two-Time 1st Team All-State Selection, Three-Time Indianapolis Star First-Team All-City Squad Member, 2-time

Indiana High School State Champion with 1 State Runner-up for the Leprechauns.  As a Senior Allyne was Indiana

Gatorade Player of the Year
.  She played Club at Circle City Volleyball Club, one of the best programs in America. 

While playing for Circle City VBC her team finished as high as  3rd in at the 2001 USAV Junior Olympics.  She was

also part of
USAV Youth and Junior National Teams, where she was able to play against and with the world's best

players.  After High School, Allyne  was recruited by and chose to play for the
University of Nebraska-Lincoln,

where she was a 4 Year Letter winner.  While playing for the historic 
Huskers volleyball program she was able to play

in a Final Four as well!  Allyne has been coaching both boys and girls volleyball since 2005 in
 different age ranges in

both Club as well as High school.  Allyne brings a wealth of knowledge to Coastal's staff where she becomes Parent

Liaison and Admin. Coordinator in charge of new and old player questions, all membership requirements for CVA,

USAV, AAU, JVA as well as SportsEngine.  She will also be involved from time to time in the training of CVA's Hitters

at Clinics, Positional Trainings, Privates as well as her daughter's Madeline's 14's team.  Allyne also has 3 boys that

keep her on the go and extremely busy! #GBR

Charles Moore



18 Elite Head Coach

     Chuck Moore has an extensive coaching background at the college, junior club and pro beach levels.  He was a

University of Southern California assistant under Olympic Gold Medalist Pat Powers in 1999 and helped the

Trojans to a 24-12 record (their best mark in 8 seasons), a tie for second place Mountain Pacific Sports Federation

and a runner-up finish in the Conference Tournament to eventual NCAA champion BYU.  In 2009 and 2010, Chuck

assisted Coach Bill Ferguson at USC with a combined record of 37-22 that included an appearance in the 2009

NCAA National Championship Match and National Coach of the Year honors for Ferguson.  Moore and Ferguson

also led the Los Angeles Athletic Club Boys 18 and 14 teams to bronze medals at Junior Nationals in 2000.  In 1994

and 1995, he guided San Diego’s Seaside Volleyball Club 18’s team (the 1995 edition finished fourth at Junior

Nationals), and then coached Torrance Volleyball Club’s 16’s in 1996.  Chuck has continued to coach girls at local

clubs, most recently, including OTVA and Elevate.  Having coached five Olympians and three NCAA Players of the

Year, Chuck was also an accomplished player.  From 2002 to 2004, he played in various pro beach tournaments,

including 9 AVP events. His best finishes were 17th place twice in 2002 in the Huntington Beach Open and the

Manhattan Open with partners Ed Ratledge and Jimmy Nichols.  Showing his versatility, Chuck was the Libero for

the Los Angeles Athletic Club’s National Championship team at the 1999 USAV Men’s Open Championships and Silver

Medalist team in 2000.  Before serving as a backrow specialist at Long Beach State in 1995 and 1996 (the 1996

team was ranked 2nd Nationally), Chuck was a J.C. All-American and team captain at Grossmont College in San

Diego in 1994. He earned Honorable Mention in 1993.  A year after graduating from Largo High School where he

played baseball, Chuck was the 1992 Florida Player of the Year while playing for the Florida Asics Club Team.  Chuck

has a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing from Long Beach State and currently serves the Citizens of St. Petersburg as a

Captain in the Fire Department.  Chuck and wife Kim have a daughter, Hunter, that plays for our 17's Team.

Maddie Raquet



16 Elite Assistant


     Maddie Raquet 
was an OH/RS for the Troy University Trojans Maddie played for four seasons at Berkeley 

Preparatory High School.  She helped the Buccaneers to four straight appearances in the FHSAA Girls Volleyball

playoffs, four straight District Championships and four straight Regional Championships.  Won the FHSAA Class 4A

State Championship in 2011 as a Sophomore and the Class 3A State Championship in 2011 as a Freshman. 

Appeared in the Class 4A State Championship game in 2012 as a Junior and in the Class 4A State Semifinals in 2013

as a Senior.  Posted a 30-2 overall record as a Sophomore, a 19-12 record as a Junior and a 22-8 record as a Senior. 

Named to the Tampa Bay Times All-County team and the Tampa Tribune All-County team as a Junior and Senior.  She

posted 157 kills, 153 digs, 49 service aces and 50 total blocks as a senior.

Billy Phillips



16 Elite Head Coach


     Billy Phillips grew up in New Port Richey and played baseball at River Ridge High School.  After high school he 

continued his baseball career at Pasco Hernando College and Florida Gulf Coast University.  In 2005, Billy signed a

professional baseball contract with the Boston Red Sox.  After his time with the Red Sox he continued his playing

career with multiple teams in the Frontier League and Northern League associations.  Upon retiring from baseball Billy

returned to FGCU where he was a volunteer assistant pitching coach with the Eagles working with multiple pitchers

who are in the Major Leagues today.  Today Billy uses his extensive knowledge of arm mechanics to help teach proper

swing mechanics to our hitters, young and old alike.  He is also the Varsity Assistant at Osceola Fundamental HS &

CAP II certified through USAV.

Sophia Picun



12 Elite Head Coach


     Sophia Picun 
has been playing volleyball since an early age.  She attended Calvary Christian HS, playing Libero /

DS for the Warriors and Head Coach Kim Whitney on Varsity during her Junior / Senior year.  In her Senior

season, her team made it to the Regional Semifinals and was a part of the best team in Calvary Christian history. 

Coach Sophia has a passion for teaching the fundamentals to our Coastal KiDS so they have a great foundation to

build upon, as well as teaching our upper echelon passers in the 15's age group.

Kristina Williamson



13 Elite Head Coach


Kristina Williamson is the JV Head Coach & Varsity Assistant Coach at Osceola Fundamental HS.  Kristina grew

up in Largo and played volleyball at Largo High School and Club Volleyball at Gulf Coast Juniors Volleyball in Pinellas

County.  After high school she continued her volleyball career at Manatee Community College for her A.A. then

transferred to Webber International University for her Bachelors.  While playing for the Warriors, Kristina lead the

Sun Conference in Blocks and was named First Team All-Conference 2 years.  After graduating Valedictorian with a

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, she pursued her Master’s in Business Administration while also playing

Collegiate Beach Volleyball for Webber International University.  Kristina was a Head Coach for Tampa Elite VBC for

6+ years.

Madison Kachurak



11 Elite Head Coach

 
     Madison Kachurak
was a 4 year Varsity player for Fivay HS as well as a 4 year Setter for Tampa United Volleyball

Club.  She was Captain of both teams her Senior year and earned numerous accolades including 2019-20 SAC Player

of the Year, 1st Team All Conference as a Junior and Senior as well as setting the Falcons school record for Serving %. 

She was a prominent student athlete and will be attending USF on an academic scholarship to Major in Early

Childhood Education.

Katie Holman



15 Elite Assistant


     Katie Holman played three years of volleyball for Eleanor Roosevelt High School and Kinetic Volleyball Club in

Greenbelt, Maryland.  As a Right Side Hitter, she helped the Roosevelt Raiders to the 2009 Maryland 4A State

Championship Semifinal as well as a 2010 Regional Final appearance.  Katie attended the University of Maryland,

where she played for the Women’s Club Volleyball Team and spent two years as a student manager for the Women’s

Varsity Volleyball Team.  She traveled with the Varsity team and assisted with all aspects of operations at home and on

the road - Practices, Coordinating Team Travel, Recruiting, Official NCAA record keeping, Media Press Releases,

Summer Camps, Equipment Management and DataVolley Statistics during Maryland’s final year in the ACC (2013) and

first year in the B1G Conference (2014).  Katie earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture & Resource Economics as

well as French.  Coach Katie moved to Florida in 2017 and spent a season Officiating High School volleyball before she

began coaching with Coastal Volleyball Academy in 2021.


Alex Greer



17 Elite Assistant


     Alex Greer was a three-year starter at libero and defensive specialist at Newsome High School.  Played five years

of club volleyball with Sandspurs, helping the team to club qualifiers in Minneapolis, Baltimore and Orlando.  Played
 
Libero/DS at Southeastern Louisiana University for the Lady Lions from 2007-09 and finished fifth in the

Southland Conference in digs per set (4.14) as a Junior.  One of five players in the league to average over 4.0 digs per

set.  Earned Honorable Mention All Southland Conference as a Junior.  Entered Senior season ranked 13th in school 

history in total digs (911). Career average (3.35) is the ninth-best in school history.  In 2022, Alex guided her Coastal

14 Elite team to our First Junior Olympic Bid in Club History, where they finished 14th out of 64 teams!

 is a well respected Senior Portrait, Family, and Sports Photographer in Tampa Bay

Area.  MrKamraMan studio is located in downtown Safety Harbor, Florida.  His work has been published numerous

times both locally and nationally.  
You will often find him court-side at many of our local area high school, club, and

tournament games capturing those special moments.

Ashley Albers

Camps Coach


Ashley Albers has been playing volleyball since she was 10.  She played club for Pinellas Heat Elite VBC, where 

she set and qualified her team 3 years in a row.  In HS, she played her Junior and Senior year as a Marauder at

Clearwater Central Catholic HS under Coach Shepherd, helping her teams to 54 wins, 2 District Championships, 2

straight Final 4's and one State Championship ('14).  She was a 1st Team All Pinellas and 2nd Team All Area

Selection as a Senior.  Ashley is a graduate of Florida State University and has recently been hired in Tampa in

Advertising.  Ashley has a high mastery of all technical aspects of setting, possesses an extremely high volleyball IQ

and is a detail oriented coach.
